Calling Card

What are the benefits of using my NorthernTel Calling Card?

It is the most practical and economical way to make long distance calls when you are not at home.

How is the charge determined for a call placed with my Calling Card?

Here are the criteria used for calculating the charge for a long distance call:

NorthernTel's rates apply to any call, provided that the call originates from or terminates in NorthernTel territory. The rates include discounts during off-peak periods and those offered under your NorthernTel long distance plan according to the terms of your plan.

I have a business in NorthernTel territory. Can I find out the dates, durations and places of long distance calls made by my employees?

Yes, you can. Simply order NorthernTel Calling Cards free, with different numbers for each of your employees. These Calling Cards are "fictitious", as each of them will carry a telephone number that is only used for recording long distance calls placed with this card. The number cannot be used for any other purposes.

The NorthernTel telephone bill you receive will then provide you with the details of the calls made for each "fictitious" Calling Card number.

You must contact a Customer Service agent at 1-800-360-8555 to order a “fictitious” Calling Card.

What types of calls are not eligible for my NorthernTel long distance plan?

For a long distance call to be eligible for your long distance plan, it must be a station-to-station call, placed with your NorthernTel Calling Card and whose originating or terminating point is in Canada.

For example, if you are outside of Canada and you use your Calling Card to place a call to another location also outside of Canada (e.g., Florida to New York or Florida to Paris), this call will not be eligible for the savings under your NorthernTel long distance plan, since neither the originating or the termination point of the call is located in Canada.

I am not a NorthernTel customer. Can I get a NorthernTel Calling Card?

Yes, you can obtain a NorthernTel Calling Card without being a NorthernTel telephone service subscriber. We will issue you a so-called "fictitious" Calling Card and all calls made with this card will be applied to a "fictitious" NorthernTel bill. A "fictitious" Calling Card carries a telephone number that is used only to record long distance calls placed with this card. This number cannot be used for any other purposes.

This service is extremely practical, if, for instance, you live with another person and you do not want your long distance calls to be included on the same bill. NorthernTel will issue you a "fictitious" Calling Card free of charge and all charges for long distance calls placed with your Calling Card will be charged to a separate bill addressed to your attention.

You must contact a Customer Service agent at 1-800-360-8555 to order a “fictitious” Calling Card.

I am a NorthernTel customer. If I make a long distance call with my NorthernTel Calling Card from Toronto to Montréal, what rate will I be charged?

When the call does not originate in NorthernTel territory (Toronto) and is not directed to a destination in NorthernTel territory (Montréal), the charge for the call is based on the rates of the telephone company from where the call is placed (in this case, Toronto). Also, if the originating telephone company offers discounts during off-peak periods, these discounts will have already been calculated (included) in the discount amount indicated on your NorthernTel bill.

Can I choose the personal identification number (PIN) for my NorthernTel Calling Card?

Your Calling Card will be sent to you with a PIN programmed by default. If you want to change it afterwards, you can by calling a NorthernTel Customer Service agent at 1-800-360-8555.
