  • If you are uncertain about any of the steps below, contact us.

Follow these easy steps:

  1. Ensure that the computer meets the <æ href="https://www.northerntel.ca/en/soutien/fibreop/internet">Security Services Minimum System Requirements. If your computer does not meet the minimum requirements, it is recommended that you consider upgrading the component(s) that are under-specification.
  2. Remove additional Anti-Virus software.
    • If you are using Internet Security Services, it is strongly recommended that you remove any other security software currently installed on your computer. Two security programs active on one computer can cause system instability. If you are installing Internet Security Services Firewall, it is suggested that you disable (but not uninstall) any other Firewall software currently installed on your computer.
  3. Install critical Microsoft updates

Microsoft maintains a listing of critical updates for the various Windows Operating Systems on the Windows Update site. Microsoft recommends that these critical updates be installed, as they contain important updates pertaining to security and system functionality.

You can find out if there are any critical updates available for your system by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

The Windows Update site will automatically tell you if your system has any critical updates to be installed.
